WEST Vancouver police are reminding drivers the Trans Canada Highway is a public road, not a raceway.

The department stopped two drivers, one Jan. 11 and another Jan. 12, driving at speeds well above the limit. The vehicle on Jan. 11 was seen driving 159 kilometres per hour in a 90-km/h zone at about 10: 20 p.m., while just after midnight the next day officers stopped a car after recording a speed of 168 km/h in the same zone. Both drivers were issued $368 tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act and had their vehicles impounded for a minimum seven days. The fee for impounding, according to a police release, is $326.49, bringing the total cost, if convicted, to nearly $700.
