The West Vancouver senior with dementia reported missing Thursday morning has been found, West Vancouver police say.
The 82-year old was last seen at 3 a.m. on the 1500 block of Esquimalt Ave. Police issued a public alert later in the morning and North Shore Rescue was called in to help with the search.
Just after 11:30 a.m., investigators released an update confirming the woman had been found by a partner agency in another jurisdiction.
"Thank you to the public, media, North Shore Rescue and our policing and community partners for their assistance," the statement read.
West Vancouver Const. Nicole Braithwaite said police always recommend that people with dementia or who are otherwise at high risk to go missing keep a cellphone or some other means for loved ones to track them down.
“We get stuff like this all the time and the outcome is not always a good outcome,” she said. “We’re just lucky we had so many people looking out for her.”
