It’s hard to act casual when you’re walking down the street carrying someone else’s TV.
West Vancouver police have arrested a North Vancouver man and are recommending charges in an alleged illegal screen scheme.
Police were tuned into the suspected thief on the morning of Feb. 26. after a Cedardale block watch captain saw a suspicious person on foot, carrying what appeared to be a TV in a box.
An officer spotted the suspect walking down Taylor Way soon after. When she turned on her lights, he dropped the telly and bolted into a nearby parking garage, according to a WVPD release.
“When the lone officer entered the garage, she confronted the man. He was swiftly taken into custody without further incident,” the release stated.
The TV and other items on the suspect were deemed to be stolen property. Initially, the man refused to identify himself to investigators, but once he was booked in a West Vancouver cell, they learned who he was through their criminal database and that he was under court orders not to possess any tools. Police have recommended the Crown lay charges of possession of stolen property and breach of probation against a 49-year-old North Vancouver man.
He was later released from custody and is due in North Vancouver provincial court in May.
“As a result of a quick-thinking block watch captain, this man is now facing criminal charges,” Const. Kevin Goodmurphy, spokesman for the West Vancouver police, said in the release. “We encourage anyone to contact police, should they observe suspicious activity.”
