WEST Vancouver police are reminding drivers to slow down as they approach the new traffic lights at Welch Street and Capilano Road, which became operational on Tuesday.
Vehicles must slow down to 30 kilometres per hour when approaching the intersection, which is close to Xwemelch'stn Etsimxwawtxw, also known as the Capilano Little Ones preschool.
The 30 km/h speed limit is in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
West Vancouver Police and the Integrated First Nations Unit are planning to watch for speeders as drivers adapt to the intersection.
Work on the intersection, which used to be a four-way stop, started last fall as part of the North Shore Spirit Trail project.
Construction also included new cycling and pedestrian paths on Welch Street.
The North Shore Spirit Trail is intended to connect Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay, providing paths for pedestrians, cyclists and people with wheelchairs across the North Shore.
