The latest weather warnings bring great news for alpine sports enthusiasts and less great news for commuters.
In the early morning hours of Sunday (Jan. 2) Environment Canada issued two weather warnings for the day, cautioning Metro Vancouverites about an incoming Pacific frontal system. The system is forecasted to bring strong winds ranging from 70 to 90 km/h lasting into the night. The areas affected include Surrey, Langley, Richmond, and Delta.
Other hazards brought by the storm include rapidly melting snow as temperatures rise and loose objects being tossed around by the wind.
Also forecasted is another dump of snow for the City of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Maple Ridge.
"As warm air advances from the Pacific, the snow will change to rain for lower elevations of Metro Vancouver this morning as temperatures rise," the federal forecasters warning reads. "Periods of heavy precipitation can produce snow as some cold air lingers today. Snowfall accumulations 5 to 15 cm are expected over higher terrain by this afternoon.
