Highway 99's northbound lanes remain closed at Lions Bay following a serious vehicle incident late Tuesday morning, Sept. 27.

Squamish RCMP is warning motorists the closure will be lengthy, but said efforts are underway to open a northbound lane as soon as possible. Shortly after 2 p.m., police confirmed barriers have been removed and northbound traffic is being diverted into controlled southbound lanes.

DriveBC's estimated time of reopening is currently set at 6 p.m., with the next update scheduled for 3:15 p.m. The major accident took place between Lions Bay Avenue and Brunswick Beach Road, about 90 kilometres south of Whistler. The Sea to Sky's southbound lanes remain unaffected.

RCMP confirmed in a tweet the force's Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is attending the scene. The division is tasked with the forensic reconstruction of collisions that result in serious injury or death throughout B.C.

Police also urged the public to "be on the lookout" for a white Honda vehicle with rear end damage, including a missing section of its back bumper. "If seen, please call Police and do not approach," RCMP added.

ICARS' Lower Mainland unit, located in Surrey, is comprised of 20 police officers who are responsible for collisions from Pemberton to Boston Bar. The unit averages more than 200 calls per year, according to the RCMP.
