Vancouver's forecast shows drier days and frigid temperatures this week.

Vancouver will continue to see some sunshine this week, but the clearer skies mean temperatures will drop.

While December and January (to this point) have been wet and mild, this week is shaping up to be closer to the norms for this time of year, with no precipitation forecast and temperatures between 7 C and 0 C for the first few days of the week.

"Weather-wise it's actually relatively quiet," says Environment Canada meteorologist Yimei Li, noting no major storms are on the horizon for Metro Vancouver.

A clearing trend on Sunday, Jan. 12, will continue through Monday and Tuesday, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Yimei Li.

"For tomorrow and Tuesday we're anticipating a mix of sun and cloud," Li tells V.I.A.

The cloud will arrive from a system on B.C.'s north coast. However, it's too far north to affect Vancouver other than sending some clouds south. There will be sunny breaks, too.

Depending on how much cloud cover Vancouver gets, the city could see frost and fog each morning; Li explains more cloud cover will mean less frost, as temperatures won't drop quite as low.

Fog will likely be localized and not widespread, she adds.

Things will remain stable throughout the week, though there is a chance of showers on Thursday, Jan. 16.

By Friday, Jan. 17, things will likely change as a cold air mass is expected to bring subzero temperatures.

"Watch out for colder temperatures towards the end of the week," says Li.

Temperatures are expected to drop to -4 C on Friday night.

"We're anticipating another frigid night Saturday night as well," says Li. "Beyond that there is some uncertainty."
