North Vancouver RCMP say they are on scene in the 300 block of West Balmoral Road helping the Squamish RCMP detachment with a "planned police operation."

Out of caution, Braemar Elementary and Mountainside Secondary have been placed on "hold and secure" for the time being, North Vancouver RCMP said. A "hold and secure" designation typically means that a school will lock its doors and students and staff cannot leave the property until it is safe to do so, but normal operations are permitted inside the school.

Both North Vancouver and Squamish detachments said they cannot release more details at this time, but there is no risk to public safety.

Police said they will remain in the area for the next few hours until the operation is done.
