A third alarm fire set a home under construction ablaze in Vancouver, B.C., on Dec. 16, 2022.

A large fire set a home ablaze Friday evening (Dec. 16).

Several people shared footage of the three-alarm fire as it burned through a residential home around 9 p.m. last night.

The house, located at 4700 Argyle Street, is under construction and was empty at the time of the fire. Asst. Chief Ken Gemmill tells Vancouver Is Awesome that "the damage is real bad."

He adds that the blaze is being treated as a suspicious fire though it is still under investigation.

The fire had caused extensive damage to the neighbouring homes on both sides of the house as well "due to the heat and the exposure to the fire," says Gemmill, adding that the occupants have been evacuated but cannot return to their homes. No injuries have been reported.

Emergency social services have been called to provide temporary housing for the neighbours.
