LYNN Valley's Petro-Canada gas station and repair shop was the target of a break-and-enter in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Thieves made off with property and a car that was parked in a service bay awaiting repairs at the business, located at Lynn Valley Road and Mountain Highway. Police are not releasing any details on the type or amount of property that was stolen.
Ron Shewchuk, a local businessman, was unlucky enough to have his car in for repairs at the time of the break-in. "My car was in the service bay when these guys were doing their dirty work," said Shewchuk. "So, when they were finished, they probably looked at my car and said . . . we might as well use this as a getaway vehicle."
The RCMP's forensic identification team is now investigating the crime and is working with other Lower Mainland detachments to determine if it is part of a larger pattern, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.
Police are checking security footage from the repair shop and neighbouring businesses.
Shewchuk has been a long-time client of the Petro-Canada garage. "I feel really sorry for the owner of the repair shop, because I've known him for many years and nobody deserves this violation," said Shewchuk. - Jen St. Denis
