Charges have now been sworn against the man West Vancouver police accuse of setting fire to a home on Squamish Nation land.
No one was seriously hurt but the home on the 300 block of Kawtin Road, in the community of Xwemelch'stn (Capilano 5 Reserve), was damaged by fire, smoke and water Sunday night.
West Vancouver police arrested the suspect nearby. At the time, investigators said the victim and the suspect knew each other and the attack was targeted.
The Crown has since sworn one charge of arson against Scott Ryan Woods, a 33-year-old Surrey man.
Woods has been released on bail and is due back in court for an appearance in September.
Kristen Rivers, Squamish Nation council co-chair, said the nation is now working with the victims.
“Our member support services team has been working closely to support the family affected by this crime, including providing emergency accommodations and financial assistance, and will continue to provide support as required until they are able to safely return to their home.”
