A sailor who arrived at a North Vancouver port terminal with a stash of alleged child pornography in his laptop computer has spent a week in jail and will likely have to find his own way home.
North Vancouver RCMP arrested 35year-old Rundong Hou after Canada Border Services agents boarded the Chinese-registered GH Fortune freighter Jan. 5 at around 8 p.m. to conduct a routine patrol. Images of alleged child pornography were discovered in a computer belonging to Hou.
Hou has been held in custody since then. He was to appear before a judge for a bail hearing Jan. 14.
It isn't the first time a sailor from a foreign freighter has been nabbed with images of alleged child pornography.
A 47-year-old sailor from a Hong Kong-registered freighter was charged with the same offence after Canadian Border Services officers noticed images on his laptop during a check of the ship in North Vancouver in July.
