Romance in a bottle

THE new fragrance from Coach whispers romance rather than screams straight-out seduction.

"It's the most romantic fragrance Coach has created. It has presence, but it doesn't shout," says perfumer Karyn Khoury, of the Estée Lauder Companies, which owns the fragrance licence for Coach Love. The newest scent from the popular luxury goods maker launches this month at Shoppers Drug Mart, Sephora, The Bay and Sears.

Coach describes its new fragrance as a feminine floral with warm, sensual woody undertones. Top notes of mandarin, dewberry, green violet and freesia warm to a heart of magnolia, jasmine and gardenia. A sensual finish blends warm notes of sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla, caramel and musk.

The Coach Love logo was created by celebrated American graphic designer Milton Glaser, who created the I Love New York logo. Glaser played with the iconic Coach C to create the heart on the face of the fragrance bottle. The collection includes eau de parfum in 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml bottles as well as purse spray and rollerball, body lotion and shower gel, $36$92.

Other sweetheart-worthy fragrance picks: ? Ed Hardy Skulls & Roses - for women, a sweet concoction of strawberry, honeysuckle and caramel; for men, a fresh and daring blend of bergamot, cardamom and musk ($62 for 75 ml spray) in his-and-hers skull bottles.

? BCBG MaxAzria, a flirty fragrance blend of black cherry, violets and creamy sandalwood in a petal-topped blush pink bottle ($64 for 50 ml spray).

? Wonderstruck Enchanted by Taylor Swift, an Oriental "gourmand" with notes of wild berries, sugar-glazed petals, white freesia and vanilla ($63 for 50 ml spray).

? Viva La Juicy La Fleur, a sparkling floral bouquet that's softer than the original Viva la Juicy fragrance ($80 for 75 ml eau de toilette).
