This YouTuber is going to iconic Vancouver filming locations to see what they look like now

It's been almost 40 years since Gastown was the setting for 'The Neverending Story'

Reshoots goes back to the location of a scene in a film and reshoots it as it is now. In this case they've returned to Gastown where 'The Neverending Story' was shot.

Ever wondered what locations used in films shot decades ago look like now?

YouTube channel Reshoots does just that, returning to where films were shot and re-shooting the location as it was in the film, albeit without the actors or special effects.

It gives viewers a chance to see where exactly a shot took place and what it looks like in 2022.

So far the channel has done three classic films shot in Vancouver, with the Neverending Story, its sequel the Neverending Story 2, and It (the original 1990 film).

In the three videos, they return to locations like Gastown to shoot the exact locations and angles the films used. They even try to recreate the camera's motion in the films.

Their meticulous attention to detail also means that if the shot is different because trees have grown or things have changed, they'll still shoot it.

For the Neverending Story and its sequel, they focus on Bastian Bux being bullied in Gastown and the scenes at and around the bookstore.

The longer video for It recreates shots from many scenes in the film, even if the building featured in the shot is gone (which happens a couple of times). Since it was filmed around Vancouver, the channel has gone to neighbouring cities, like New Westminster and North Vancouver to see what the locations look like now.

While those are the only three videos featuring Vancouver, the channel has revisited other films shot in other cities from the 50s to the 90s, including The Goonies, Stand By Me, and Blade Runner. There's also a playlist for films shot in Seattle.
