A second portable will be placed on the site of Queen Mary Community Elementary this summer to accommodate enrolment pressures.
Superintendent Mark Pearmain told trustees the portable is scheduled for arrival in July, and should be ready for the start of the next school year in September.
Pearmain said 60 kindergarten students are expected at the school in September – a number similar to kindergarten enrolment at Queen Mary for the past two years.
The school district also intends to reapply to the province in June for a new elementary school at the site of the former Cloverley Elementary. The school district had hoped the province might fast-track a request for a new $21.6-million elementary school – which is at the top of the school district’s capital construction wish list – but it was not among the capital projects recently approved by the province.
