Poll: Who do Vancouverites want to see become president of the U.S.?

While most in Vancouver won't get a say in the election, support is still firmly behind VP Kamala Harris.

The American presidential election will happen in November, pitting former president Donald Trump against current vice-president Kamala Harris. A poll from VIA shows Harris is much more popular in Vancouver.

If the American presidential election were to happen in Vancouver, Vice President Kamala Harris would win in a landslide.

The current VP leads in a poll V.I.A. ran from Sept. 11, the day after the last presidential debate, until Sept. 30.

In the poll, Harris is leading with nearly 72 per cent of local votes; that's just a percentage point more than the general readership vote (which includes both local and non-Vancouver votes).

This poll shows a slight increase in support for Harris from the last V.I.A. poll, which saw Harris leading with just under 68 per cent of the vote.

Support for former president Donald Trump has remained about the same. In the previous poll and the most recent one, Trump saw right around 15.5 per cent of the local vote.

It appears the gains for Harris came from the "Neither" category, which got nearly 17 per cent of the votes in the summer poll. That dropped to 12.5 per cent in the September poll.

In a poll run in the early summer while President Joe Biden was still running, he led Trump, but both were well behind "Neither." At that time, Trump had about 14 per cent of the vote.
