Police are hoping the public can help shed some light on the mysterious death of a West Vancouver man this week.

The 59-year-old, whose name has been withheld at his familys request, was last seen leaving his home for a bike ride on Monday. He was known as an accomplished outdoorsman. When he failed to return, his wife contacted the police.

The following day, a boater found the mans body floating in Burrard Inlet off of Cates Park.

What happened in between those times is a mystery, although the North Vancouver RCMP say they have no reason to suspect foul play at this point.

An autopsy scheduled for Friday may help determine the cause of the mans death.

One of the leads police are pursing is the mans missing bicycle, a 2007 Opus Stelle road bike, white with green trim.

Investigators are hoping finding the bike may help them piece together what happened.

It might help us determine where he was last seen, said Sgt. Peter DeVries, spokesman for the detachment. If it was found near a cliff or a swimming area that might give us an indication too.

Anyone who has seen a bicycle like that should contact the detachment at 604-985-1311. Sgt. Greg Mainman is the lead investigator and the file number is 2011-25786.
