"We felt truly blessed."

A Vancouver local was out with friends when they spotted a pod of orcas in the harbour.

A group of friends headed out for an adventure on the water Sunday (April 30) and got more than they bargained for when a small pod of orca whales kept them company almost the whole journey.

Sheena McAleer posted a video of the surprise guests to her Instagram as the Orcas followed them from Mosquito Creek Marina in North Vancouver, into Vancouver Harbour around the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge, and into Deep Cove.

"We saw them within five minutes and they kept appearing as we stopped along the way," recalls McAleer. "There were four orcas in total. One or two of them were babies. Since they need to breathe more we ended up seeing them quite a bit."

She and her friends kept their distance and cut the boat's engine whenever the whales were close.

In her video of the pod, the whales can be seen continuously coming to the surface and spouting. She writes: "We felt truly blessed."
