A plane missing in the backcountry since Sunday has been found intact after making an emergency landing on a glacier.

All three men aboard the plane, including a pilot in his 80s, escaped unharmed.

The missing single-engine plane prompted a significant air search Sunday night and Monday over the North Shore’s rugged backcountry after it was reported overdue from a flight between Pitt Meadows and Pemberton Sunday.

Two Buffalo aircraft and two Cormorant helicopters from Canadian Forces Base Comox scoured the area. The plane’s last known radar contact had been over Indian Arm.

But on Monday night, searchers received word that the white Musketeer plane had been spotted by snowmobilers on a glacier in the Pemberton Ice Field, about 15 kilometres northwest of Callaghan Lake.

Military search and rescue technicians were transported to the plane by Cormorant helicopter, where they found a note from the pilot and passengers, saying they were unharmed and were seeking shelter nearby. Searchers picked up all three men near a forested area shortly after and brought them back to Pitt Meadows.
