It’s the last picture show in Lower Lonsdale.
Cineplex Cinemas has confirmed it will be closing its Esplanade theatre on April 2, just as the new state-of-the-art Park Royal location is due to open later in the week.
The six-screen Esplanade theatre had been in business under various operators since 1990.
Company spokeswoman Sarah Van Lange said the older North Vancouver location isn’t set up with the amenities moviegoers are looking for now – things like luxury recliner seats, UltraAVX, reclining D-Box motion seats and VIP areas.
“The way that we watch movies has changed and is evolving,” she said. “Guests are looking for an experience that can’t be replicated at home. ... The new theatre affords more of those opportunities.”
Those looking to catch one last flick in LoLo Tuesday have their pick of Captain Marvel, Dumbo, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Everybody Knows, The Beach Bum and The Hummingbird Project.
As for plans for the Park & Tilford location, which is also owned by Cineplex Cinemas: “Nothing new to share there,” Van Lange said.
Property management firm First Capital Realty now has the 42,950-square foot Esplanade theatre and lobby space listed for lease.
The property is assessed at $18,144,000.
