Police say 16-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck by a driver on Capilano Road.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday near Paisley Road, according to North Vancouver RCMP.
The driver of a white Jeep was headed south on Capilano Road when the teen “entered the roadway and was struck,” a release from police stated Monday morning.
“The pedestrian is in critical condition right now, being treated at the hospital and our thoughts and prayers are with this individual, hoping that they make it out and then for a speedy recovery,” said Const. Mansoor Sahak, North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson.
Sahak said the RCMP’s victim services unit will be available to anyone who needs them.
“Obviously, with this individual being 16, there’s going to be friends and students out there that are learning of this news, and they’re going to be affected. Anyone affected emotionally, they can contact us for support.”
Because of the seriousness of the collision, the RCMP has called in the highly specialized Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service to help determine exactly what happened.
Sahak said there were some witnesses at the scene who have given statements to investigators, but police are hoping to get any dashcam or surveillance video that may have captured the crash or the white Jeep in the moments leading up to it.
Sahak said they have ruled out impaired driving as a factor. The driver has been co-operative with investigators.
Anyone who witnessed or has video of the collision and has not spoken to police is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file 24-25577. Anyone seeking support from victim services can call 604-969-7540.
