Supt. William Yee has been named the new officer in charge for the North Van detachment, it was announced Thursday (Aug. 12).
“I am excited to work with the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, Indigenous communities, businesses and partner agencies on collaborative strategies that will keep our communities safe and increase the trust and confidence with the people we serve,” stated Yee, in a news release.
A 25-year member of the RCMP, the new North Van police chief first joined the RCMP in 1996 in Kelowna, where he served the local detachment doing front-line policing, property crimes and was a member of the Southeast District Federal Drug section, according to the release.
In 2006, he joined the RCMP’s Lower Mainland District. He also served in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team for 10 years, Combined Forces Enforcement Unit British Columbia and the Office of Investigative Standards.
In 2019, Yee was commissioned to the rank of inspector and served as the officer in charge of the Office Investigative Standards and Practices and the Legal Application Support Team for E Division, the release states.
Yee is replacing former Officer-In-Charge Ghalib Bhayani, who was promoted to chief superintendent for the RCMP’s Lower Mainland District.
Yee will begin his new role with the North Vancouver RCMP in September.
