A blaze that consumed a house in North Vancouver on Saturday sent four people to hospital, two of them in serious condition.
At around 2 p.m. on July 20, District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services was called to a house fire at 3625 Hillcrest Ave., said Deputy Fire Chief Chris Byrom.
Four trucks from the district and two from North Vancouver City Fire Department responded to the structure fire.
“It was a very deep blaze,” Byrom said. “It was burning real hot.”
From across Burrard Inlet, video footage showed a large column of smoke rising above the home in the Capilano Highlands neighbourhood.
When crews arrived, they found four people outside, who had just escaped the home, Byrom said.
All four were sent to hospital, with two of them in critical condition, Byrom said. They were first treated by fire crews and then rushed to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services, he added.
All of the injured people have since recovered, and are now receiving emergency support services, Byrom said.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire without too much difficulty, he said. “We saved the structure, but it's very burnt and very destroyed.”
Investigators were on scene Saturday evening and began investigating Sunday morning.
As for the cause, “there’s no reason at this point for suspicion,” Byrom said.
