GAMBLERS' losses are community groups' gains as the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development doled out its latest round of gaming grants to North Shore organizations.
North Shore MLAs Jane Thornthwaite, Naomi Yamamoto, and Ralph Sultan were on hand Friday as the grants were announced at North Shore Neighbourhood House, which received $147,000 from the province.
Also on the list: The North Shore Connexions Society received $100,000, Parkgate Community Services Society will receive $70,000 and the Lions Club of North Vancouver will get $36,000.
Other recipients include the North Shore Schizophrenia Society at $39,500; the Cinderella Project Society and the North Shore Crisis Services Society, each with $20,000. The Young Naturalists' Club of British Columbia Society has been earmarked for $20,000 while The Elders Council for Parks in British Columbia is listed for a $14,000-grant and the North Shore Keep Well Society is tagged for $5,000.
Most of the money was for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.
