Cyclists will find themselves having to dodge fewer cars as they traverse the North Shore following the announcement of funding for several new bike lanes.
The B.C. Liberal Government Caucus has announced three new bicycle infrastructure projects worth almost $700,000 in the last week.
The government is putting up $480,900 for bike lanes in both directions and a multi-use path on the south side of Mount Seymour Parkway between Seymour Boulevard and Riverside Drive. The grant from the BikeBC program covers half the costs of the Seymour River Greenway, meant to connect the Spirit Trail to Maplewood.
There is another $69,375 coming to put in bike lanes and a separated path along Barrow Street to the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing starting on Main Street at Harbour Avenue, and a 175-metre bike trail on Chadwick Court to the SeaBus terminal at a cost of $100,000.
Each of the grants represent a 50-per cent stake in completing sections of the Spirit Trail.
The province is also looking at widening the sidewalks and enhancing pedesrian and cyclist safety on the Ironworkers, however improvements are still in the engineering phase and have not been announced to the public.
