They’re rolling out the green carpet at Fen Burdett Stadium in Mahon Park as the City of North Vancouver puts the finishing touches on a new artificial turf field.
Snow put a chill on construction this week but the city is still hoping to have the new field ready for action by the end of the month. Landscaping and other park improvements will continue throughout winter, with a new rubber track slated for installation in the spring of 2017.
The field in Mahon Park was first opened in 1914 and has seen many great moments and athletes over the past century. It was renamed Fen Burdett Stadium in 1994 to recognize a local sports figure who funded, coached and managed youth soccer and baseball teams for decades.
The new turf and recreational running track are replacing gravel surfaces. This will be the third artificial turf field in the city, following the turf at Sutherland secondary and Confederation Field at Carson Graham secondary.
