If you have any reason to cross Burrard Inlet any night this weekend, you’re going to want to plan ahead. Lions Gate Bridge will be closed to traffic in both directions overnight Friday (April 29), Saturday (April 30) and Sunday (May 1).
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will cut off access to the bridge as of 10 p.m. Friday and re-open it at 8 a.m. on Saturday. On Saturday and Sunday, the bridge will be closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The east sidewalk will remain open the entire time for cyclists and pedestrians, and emergency vehicles as well as buses that operate after the SeaBus shuts down for the night will be allowed through, escorted through by a pilot car.
The closures are to allow crews to complete and test the bridge’s new counterflow singalling system.
The last time the bridge was fully closed was in the early 2000s when the bridge deck was being replaced.
