As the flowers start to bud and the temperature rises, Spring Break also brings with it the last two weekends available to skate at North Vancouver’s Shipyards Skate Plaza.
Closing on March 28, after the region’s Spring Break, this year’s skating season has been a success as the City of North Vancouver said the rink has welcomed approximately 27,600 attendees since December 2021.
Closed last winter because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the skating rink was a welcomed mood-booster during the darkest months of the year.
“Since Spring break has started, we have seen the skate plaza busy and well used by the community,” the city said in a statement to the North Shore News.
The 12,000-square-foot Skate Plaza, opened in 2019 near the foot of Lonsdale Avenue, is the largest outdoor skating rink in the Lower Mainland.
The rink is open 1-8 p.m. daily, and masks are no longer required, according to provincial health regulations. The 50 per cent capacity limit in place this year has also been lifted recently. Helmets are available for free, while skates are available for rent. There is no charge for accessing the ice.
