A 17-year-old is in critical condition following a hit-and-run by a driver in North Vancouver Monday night.
According to North Vancouver RCMP, a passerby found the teen in the street near Keith Road and St. Andrews Avenue unconscious and severely injured around 10:15 p.m. Others heard the collision and came outside to see what happened.
One person was arrested later that night without incident, according to police but investigators believe there may be other witnesses who they are now urging to come forward.
"Although we have made an arrest, it's very important that we continue our efforts to gather all available evidence," said Sgt. Peter DeVries, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.
Specifically, they are looking for witnesses who might have seen a newer model white vehicle in the area around that time or on Lynn Valley Road/the Safeway parking lot at Lynn Valley Centre, although police are not releasing any further details so early in the investigation, DeVries said.
"Your surveillance camera may have captured something. Please check," DeVries said.
To help in the investigation, the North Van detachment has called in the Lower Mainland RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.
"Our greatest concern is for the health of this young woman," DeVries said. "We have the investigation well in hand. The focus for everyone else right now should be on her recovery.”
Anyone with information or camera footage that may piece together what happened is asked to contact North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
