Here's why West Van tap water may look cloudy for the next few months

Water main maintenance project starts in March

West Vancouver is conducting water main maintenance from March until May.
If you live in West Vancouver and notice your tap water is looking a little cloudy any time during the next few months, the municipality wants you to know it’s for a good reason.

District of West Vancouver staff will be conducting water main maintenance starting this March.

The annual flushing of sediments in the water system during the maintenance period is one of the ways the district provides “high-quality water to West Vancouver residents,” according to a news release.

Residents might expect to see periodic water discolouration during this time. However, while the sediments may cause temporary cloudiness, the water is safe and the sediments are not harmful, according to the district.

The district states that residents may wish to run a cold water tap until the water is clear. Chlorination will also be increased as necessary, but the water will be dechlorinated before it reaches the drainage system.

The work is expected to last until May.
