If at first you don’t succeed, fry, fry, fry again.
The District of West Vancouver is taking another stab at hosting a full service restaurant at the Gleneagles Golf Course.
District staff posted a call for expressions of interest from hospitality contractors to take over the 50-seat restaurant space, which hasn’t had a tenant since 2016.
The district was approached by a vendor interested in the location. However, the municipality must seek bids from other contenders before evaluating the proposal, according to West Vancouver spokeswoman Donna Powers.
In 2014, the district tore up its contract with the operator of the Larson Station restaurant when it became apparent the restaurant wasn’t operating under the hours agreed to in the contract. The operator later sued the district. That case has not yet gone to trial.
In 2015, Peake of Catering opened the AppleBack Grill at the clubhouse, but closed and parted amicably with the district in late 2016, citing “a challenging business environment and lack of patronage.”
The district is accepting proposals for the restaurant space until Feb. 4 and is aiming to have the restaurant open as early as May.
