Firefighters made quick work of dousing a kitchen fire that likely spread from a stove Wednesday afternoon in North Vancouver.
Seven people who were home at the time the fire broke out escaped the house unharmed.
City of North Vancouver fire crews were called at about 1:36 p.m. after passersby in the 600 block of East Keith Road noticed smoke pouring from vents in an older home, said assistant chief Mike Danks.
Fire crews doused the blaze, which appeared to have started in the kitchen area of the home.
Quick action by firefighters stopped the fire spreading into the attic, said Danks, although the kitchen and attic did sustain significant smoke and water damage.
Danks said it appeared the residents had initially attempted to put out the fire themselves.
An investigation is continuing into how the fire started.
