Fire crews prevented a structural fire from razing a single-family home on Mahon Avenue in North Vancouver Sunday afternoon.
Besides knocking down the blaze, City and District of North Vancouver firefighters were tasked with ensuring the fire didn’t spread to neighbouring homes, noted City of North Vancouver assistant fire chief Greg Schalk.
Despite the severity of the fire and the “very tight” 33-foot lots in the neighbourhood, crews were able to confine the blaze, according to Schalk.
After getting the call shortly before 1 p.m., firefighters doused the blaze by about 2 p.m. However, due to the "large accumulation" of objects in and around the house, it was difficult to be certain the fire had been extinguished, according to Schalk.
“Because of all the items there it was very difficult to gain access to the property and confirm that we had actually put the fire out,” he said.
The owners were not home when the fire started, according to Schalk.
Because of the extent of the fire and water damage, fire investigators were unable to enter the home on Sunday.
No injuries were reported.
