A broken trailer hitch was the likely culprit that saw a dump truck lose its bottom half Tuesday morning and hurtle into a couple of parked cars.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m. when the dump truck driver rounded the corner at the intersection of Delbrook Avenue and West Queens Road in North Vancouver.
“It looks like the hitch on the trailer broke free, so it wasn’t that it came uncoupled. It looked like it snapped off,” said assistant fire Chief Walter Warner of District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services.
“It was under low speed and basically what happened was as the trailer broke off, the neck of it dug into the ground and sort of pushed a couple cars around that were parked on the side of the street.”
Three people who were in the cars at the time were treated for minor injuries, Warner said.
