After a two-month delay, construction on the new Argyle Secondary has begun.
With the lowest construction bid exceeding available funding, school district staff spent two months working with the Ministry of Education and the contractor: “to align project scope with budget,” Pearmain stated in a recent release.
The school district has reached an agreement with DGS Construction to build the new school, Pearmain explained. However, the school district would not reveal the extent of the funding shortfall prior to executing their final agreement with DGS, explained school district communications manager Nevasha Naidoo.
The new Argyle is expected to be complete by the fall of 2020. The demolition of the old school and the construction of a new sports field are expected to begin afterwards.
The school’s gravel field will be off limits “indefinitely,” as it become an active construction site, according to Naidoo.
Residents are reminded that there will be heavy machinery on the site and rolling through the community during construction.
“We acknowledge the increasing construction noise and disruption at the Argyle site over the next two
years. We are all very excited to have a new Argyle Secondary School and appreciate your continued
patience and understanding,” Pearmain stated.
