Closing time in the Seaside Hotel restaurant will be an hour later on Fridays and Saturdays after City of North Vancouver council unanimously voted Monday to let the waterfront hotel pour until 1 a.m.
“I think this is another important piece of supporting vibrancy of the Shipyards,” said Coun. Tony Valente, noting several city pubs have been permitted to operate into the wee smalls. There are a dozen establishments in the neighbourhood that operate until 1 or 2 a.m., and city staff “are not aware of any neighbourhood concerns,” according to a city report.
Coun. Don Bell requested staff keep a watchful eye on nightlife.
Given that the hotel entrance is off a corridor and that capacity is limited to 91 patrons, the changes should not have “any negative impact on area residents, provided the venue is managed appropriately,” according to a city staff report.
The change also allows for live music and dancing. While supportive, Mayor Linda Buchanan encouraged everyone to be a good neighbour. “We just want to make sure that the Shipyards is a great, vibrant place but that it’s also a place where people live,” she said.
