Catch of the day was a car

Man, 90, hits accelerator, not brake

A 90-year-old West Vancouver man escaped without injury Sept. 28 when he drove his car through the front of a seafood store.

The senior was pulling into a parking space outside Westview Seafoods at North Vancouver's Westview Centre at about 3 p.m. when he reportedly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, propelling his Toyota Camry through the store's front window, according to police.

Firefighters and paramedics checked the man out at the scene and released him to the care of his son. No one was hurt in the crash.

Collisions caused by pedal error are not uncommon on the North Shore, with storefronts frequently the victim.

A woman plowed into the side of a Marine Drive strip mall in January after what police described as a possible pedal mix-up. In September last year, a vehicle smashed through the front of a real estate agency in Edgemont Village when the driver reportedly made a similar mistake.
