A two-car collision on the south side of the Lions Gate Bridge shut down traffic in both directions for nearly two hours Wednesday morning.

The drivers of both cars were taken to hospital with minor injuries according to Vancouver Police Department Const. Lindsey Houghton.

The collision occurred at approximately 8: 40 a.m. when the southbound vehicle swerved into the northbound lane.

The impact of the collision pushed the southbound vehicle over the concrete barrier, where it came to rest with its rear end hovering over the sidewalk.

The 240 and 246 buses detoured to the SeaBus terminal at Lonsdale where commuters boarded the SeaBus to get to Vancouver, according to Derek Zabel, duty manager with Coast Mountain Bus Company.

Bus service from Vancouver to the North Shore detoured to the Second Narrows Bridge.
