THERE will be two public events on the North Shore this Sunday to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

West Vancouver United Church is hosting "Where were you when the world stopped turning?" The public service starts at 10 a.m. and will include special music and a new hymn written for the occasion. Mayor Pam GoldsmithJones will be in attendance, along with the district's Chief Constable Peter Lepine and Fire Chief Jim Cook.

In North Vancouver, the North Shore's three firefighters' union locals are teaming up for a memorial service in Victoria Park. More than 340 firefighters perished in the World Trade Centre attacks, many of them while still trying to reach people trapped in the doomed towers. The service begins at 8: 45 a.m. sharp. Organizers ask for people to be in place by 8: 30 a.m.
