The indoor bike park that has carved out a unique space in North Vancouver’s Capilano Mall is ready to hit high gear with a grand opening party Saturday, Nov. 4.
The North Shore Bike Park opened in July in the space formerly occupied by a Sears department store, although at launch they were still building some of the features for the park. They’re now ready to invite the whole community in to see what the facility is all about.
Saturday’s event will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., featuring contests, races, demos, music, food and more. Admission is $29.99 for a full day of riding and free for non-riders. A beer and cocktail bar will open up for happy hour at 6 p.m., with live music from Captain Deebs & The Boat Riderz hitting the stage at 8 p.m. followed by DJ G Rock and DJ Skitch to close out the night.
The North Shore Bike Park is the largest indoor bike park for mountain biking, BMX, and dirt jumping in British Columbia.
Earlier this year park founder Mike Upton told the North Shore News that the space is meant to be a meeting place for the North Shore’s biking-mad population, particularly enticing on those wet winter days when riding indoors sounds a lot more enjoyable than getting stuck in mountain mud.
“It’s a community centre for cycling,” he said. “It’s meant to be something available to all manners of cycling…. And it’s a hell of a lot of fun.”
