Local dance instructor and choreographer Karen Kobel and veteran Chicago-based dancer Lee Palmer invite community members to Stand Up and Dance II, a fundraising evening in support of mental wellness, Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Vancouver’s Fan Club. Kobel organized the event to shed light on the positive impact creativity and movement have on mental well-being when living with the trauma of sexual violence and bullying, and to raise funds for her upcoming second trip to Kenya where she will work with Living Positive Kenya and the Tembo Trading Education Project. Stand Up and Dance II will feature choreography by Kobel and Palmer, live music by The Unified and a fashion show, featuring West Vancouver’s Kjaer Pedersen, Vancouver designer Shelley Klassen and West Vancouver’s Lotusland Imports, founded by Susan Bibbings. Carol Todd will also promote her Light Up the World Purple campaign. Tickets are available at the door for $30 or $25 online at kahlena.com/stand-up-and-dance.html.
