Supernova Salon took home the top award for Salon Interior Design at the 27th annual Canadian Hairstylist of the Year Awards (also known as the Contessa Awards), which recognize the best work of the year in the professional Canadian beauty industry.

Salon owner and creative director Dana Lyseng accepted the award last month at a gala at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. In total, 24 trophies were handed out that evening to hair, nail and makeup artists across Canada.

Supernova Salon has been a mainstay in the Lower Lonsdale community for 12 years. In April, the business moved into a new and larger location at 232 Lonsdale Ave. with an interior space created by House of Bohn Design.

Lyseng and her Supernova colleague Mathieu Hubert were also among the finalists for this year's Contessa Awards. Lyseng was a contender in the Master Colourist category and Hubert was a finalist in the Texture Hairstylist category.

The Contessas are a photo-based competition produced by Salon Communications Inc. Judging is performed blindly with identities of the entrants remaining anonymous.
