A longstanding residential care facility in North Vancouver has celebrated two decades of serving the North Shore by changing its name.
Kiwanis Care Centre is now known as the Berkley Care Centre, the Vancouver Coastal Health-operated facility announced earlier this month.
The 192-bed licensed residential care facility has supported more than 800 North Shore seniors since opening in 1998, a release from VCH notes.
The name change announcement was made during the centre’s 20th anniversary celebration held May 31.
The facility was first opened by the Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society, which operates other non-profit housing on the North Shore.
VCH assumed ownership of the care centre in 2010 and the name change has come about in order to avoid confusion between the care centre and other Kiwanis-run seniors homes, a release from VCH states.
Berkley Care Centre is located at 2444 Burr Place in North Vancouver.
