Abbotsford—or Abby as it’s affectionately known by locals—is a-changin’. Yes, this suburban city of 142 thousand is moving beyond its “Home of the Air Show” label and becoming a happening hot bed for brewers, wine makers and culinary risk-takers.
Eco Dairy and Nature's Pickins are well aware of the city’s abundant talent and wrangled some of its best for Under the Harvest Moon. This eat, drink, and mingle fest is hosted by the charming Taves Family Farm and features four craft breweries, two boutique wineries and two farm to table eateries.
The journey from Van City makes one thirsty, so I immediately bee-lined to Raven’s Brewing Company; a family-run operation that brews unique European and West Coast beers like raspberry hefenweizen (pictured).
I paired this winner with tasty, bacon jam pork sliders from Harvest Grill & Greens. Perfection. Singletree wines turned me on to a cold-climate loving Siegerrebe and a bold red blend called Harness. I then foraged a gorgeous lobster mushroom risotto from Restaurant 62 and washed it down with a wild, fennel infused Herbaceous Saison from my new pals at Field House Brewing.
Compass Heli Tours wrapped up the culinary adventure with a (very apropos) air show finale, and I vowed to spend much more time in this friendly, fertile Valley. You should too.
