In Spanish, fiesta means “party” and my dining room, which my husband, Shawn Lee, and I affectionately call The Fiesta Lounge is a vibrant, colourful space meant for just that—celebrations and entertaining friends.
Here, we wanted to capture the essence of Mexico and Central America, but with a relaxed vibe; a space that provides a warm welcome to every friend who enters. The “Hola” sign, made by the guys at Seen Signs in New Westminster, does just that and turned out even better than we had hoped. When selecting our paint palette, knew we wanted the room to be multicoloured (there are seven hues in total) and we liked the idea of a bright pink feature wall. It's an upbeat tone that also helps the sign pop!
My job keeps me busy and travelling a lot, which is why you'll see low-maintenance cacti, instead of regular house plants (and they also suit the theme!). Most importantly, the room is home to our tequila collection. While holidaying in the colourful, colonial town of Tequila in the Pacific region of Mexico, my husband and I learned to savour and appreciate the spirit. Sitting here, sipping some Chinaco Reposado poured over ice from the crystal tumbler my beloved mother-in-law gave me makes me feel like I'm on holidays. Olé! —As told to Bianca Solterbeck
