For the past few years the JOEY restaurant chain has focused on opening on the other side of the border, but in early 2020 they will return to their Canadian roots as they launch their “flagship” North Vancouver location.
Situated in Lower Lonsdale in the ever-expanding Shipyards district, this massive 9,500-square-foot waterfront space boasts two levels and a huge 2,450-square-foot patio, offering stunning views of downtown Vancouver.
The North Shore location will mark JOEY Restaurants’ 28th location.
On the main level guests will have a view of the chefs at work in the “showcase” kitchen, and can opt to sit at the bar or in the dining room. The second level features a lounge and dining space, and will be available for private bookings. Year-round outdoor dining is available courtesy fire bowls and a retractable roof.
At the Shipyards JOEY, diners can expect to find a menu created by their culinary team, headed up by Top Chef Canada winner and Executive Director of Culinary at JOEY Restaurant, Chef Matthew Stowe. The chain’s globally-influenced fare ranges from gyoza and Korean fried cauliflower to sushi, burgers, butter chicken and lobster ravioli.
“We’re very excited to bring our collection of restaurants to North Vancouver and become a part of the local North Shore community. After successfully expanding east and south of the border, we knew opening a location in our own backyard with impressive views of Vancouver’s skyline would be an ideal next step that demonstrates the JOEY brand today,” said founder Jeff Fuller in a media release.
Fuller is the son of the late Leroy “Bus” Fuller, who founded the Earls restaurant chain. JOEY began in Calgary in 1992. They currently have four Metro Vancouver locations - two in downtown Vancouver, and one each in Coquitlam and Burnaby. They closed a third Vancouver location, on West Broadway, in October 2018.
The Shipyards has seen tremendous development in the last few years. The area is now home to the Polygon Gallery, where Nemesis Coffee has just launched their new location and bakery. The neighbouring development features standout retailers like Larry’s Vegetarian Market, and the just-opened outdoor ice skating rink (and summertime splash pad).
JOEY Shipyards is set to open to the public on Jan. 23. They are located at The Shipyards at 125 Victory Ship Way in North Vancouver.
