ORGANIZERS of West Vancouver's Pumpkin Fest are hoping to turn golf into a family event this year.
Family Golf Day will make its debut on Saturday, Oct. 13, and is set to include 12 holes of golf as well as other activities like pumpkin carving at Ambleside Par 3.
Funds raised by the harvest festival will benefit the West Vancouver Community Centre Society.
"It won't just be dad heading out to the golf tournament and we don't see him until the end of the day. All of us can go and do something that will be fun and raise some money for a good cause at the same time," said organizer Alison Caldwell.
Ambleside Par 3 will be divided into four zones, each with three holes, and teams will compete against each other for various prizes. But there will be twists: participants may be asked to land a soccer ball inside of a hula-hoop or use a hockey stick for putting.
"Even if you're not a great golfer you'll still have fun out on the course and it will level the playing field a bit," said Caldwell.
Family Golf Day will run from 9: 30 a.m. to noon at 1201 Marine Dr., West Vancouver. The cost is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and youth, and $15 for children ages three to 12.
Pumpkin Fest will also host a family dance featuring the Adam Woodall Band at West Vancouver Community Centre Saturday evening and an all-day fair on Sunday.
