Prior to being known as the British Columbia Mountaineer Club (BCMC), they were called the Vancouver Mountaineer Club.
Filled with locals wanting to explore and survey the mountains as well as the flora and fauna of the region, many would hop across the inlet for day trips to the North Shore. Pictured here is one such trip with early members of the VMC shown with Dickson Kells, the proprietor of the Capilano Hotel, and his family in 1908.
The photo was taken to commemorate the club presenting the VMC Cup to Sophia Kells, seen in the middle of the photo.
