Marcus Servious McDowell moved to North Vancouver and started McDowell’s Drug Store on the northwest corner of Lonsdale Avenue and First Street in 1904. The original building still stands there today.

As well as running his store, “Mac” also served the community as a member of the City of North Vancouver’s School Board for 14 years and later as a school trustee for 22 years.

By 1949 Mac retired and his son Harold took over the store. Harold is between Mac and his sister Eileen, pictured here as the family enjoys a picnic in Victoria Park.
