The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada were established in 1910 by the local Scottish community as Vancouver’s infantry regiment. Here is a photo of the North Vancouver members of the Seaforth Highlanders cadet signalling section at summer camp in 1914.
Newton P. Steacy, age 18, is pictured third from the right. Steacy, who attended North Van High, later become the MLA for North Vancouver and served as the minister of agriculture from 1957 to 1960.
He married Ruth Clements in 1921. The Seaforth Highlanders remain Vancouver’s reserve infantry regiment based out of the Seaforth Armoury on Burrard Street.
